Lexie is interested in the intersection of environment, place, and identity. She employs storytelling as a method of identifying and sharing the similarities and differences between people and the “more-than-human” world. Her interdisciplinary practice combines digital media, handmade paper, printmaking, book arts, and original writing.</p><p data-rte-preserve-empty="true" class="">Lexie has taught previous art workshops at Cellar Press (MN), Eastern Iowa Arts Academy (IA), Northern State University (SD), and the Aberdeen Recreation &amp; Cultural Center (SD). She was a Lecturer of Art at Northern State University from 2019–2023, teaching art history, graphic design, digital illustration, and mixed media courses.</p><p data-rte-preserve-empty="true" class="">Lexie is a recent graduate from the University of Iowa, earning her MFA in Graphic Design and Printmaking with a Graduate Certificate from the Center for the Book. She graduated from the University of Louisville in 2019 with an M.A. in Art History and an emphasis in Curatorial Studies. She holds a B.A. in Graphic Design from Northern State University. </p><p data-rte-preserve-empty="true" class="">Her work has been shown across the Midwest: North American Hand Papermakers’ Member Showcase (St. Paul, MN); JFAC Gallery (Aberdeen, SD); Mainframe Studios (Des Moines, IA); 4th Midwest Open, Woman Made Gallery (Chicago, IL); and in the traveling South Dakota Governor’s 9th Biennial.</p>

Other professional highlights include a papermaking residency (Vienna, Austria), a solo exhibition (Mexico City, Mexico), and multiple bookbinding residencies in Venice, Italy. Her work has been featured in such magazines as <em>American Craft</em> and <em>Hand Papermaking</em>. She travels to teach and exhibit her work in the United States, Japan, Italy, Sweden, Canada, Australia, Korea, and Taiwan/China. At the invitation of Tsinghua University (Beijing, China), Amanda established a hand-papermaking studio, where she occasionally teaches.</p><p data-rte-preserve-empty="true" class="">At Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Amanda was first the artist-in-residence (1984–1987) and the first Artistic Director (1997–1998). She worked at&nbsp;<em>Hand Papermaking</em>, a biannual magazine which she co-founded/co-published (1985–1992) with Michael Durgin. Amanda began Cave Paper casually in the 1980s, then officially co-ran it with Bridget O’Malley from 1994–2017. Cave Paper (1994–2020) is a mill known for its durable flax and cotton papers, often dyed with combinations of black walnut, indigo, red iron oxide, or persimmon. Cave’s papers are desired by artists, bookbinders, and fine publishers worldwide, as indicated by an increase in production from 1990 (400 sheets per year) to 2019 (10,000 sheets per year).&nbsp; In 2020, Cave Paper moved to Tucson, Arizona, where it is owned and operated by Zoe Goehring.</p><p data-rte-preserve-empty="true" class="">Degener is now a full-time artist, making books under the name HMPeditions.</p>

After stepping away from a career in emergency medicine, they chose to pursue printmaking full-time, traveling across the country to learn from master printers and historic shops, including Hatch Show Print (Nashville, TN), Bruno Press (St. Joseph, MN), Power &amp; Light Press (Silver City, NM), and Partners in Print (Seattle, WA). </p><p data-rte-preserve-empty="true" class="">Working primarily in linocut and letterpress, Aimee creates bold, layered prints that merge image and language; from landscape reductions inspired by the American West to socially engaged poster work that responds to the present moment. Their teaching philosophy emphasizes experimentation, process, and accessibility. They believe printmaking is for everyone, whether you consider yourself an artist or not, and that carving and printing by hand creates space for both reflection and courage. She began her professional print career at Mullowney Printing (San Francisco, CA), specializing in large-scale etchings, relief, and photogravure. She has also taught printmaking at the Academy of Art University (San Francisco, CA) and remains deeply committed to art education in its many forms.</p><p data-rte-preserve-empty="true" class="">A skilled printer, Erin continually pushes the boundaries of traditional printmaking by integrating digital fabrication and emerging technologies with historic processes. She is an internationally recognized book artist and founder of <a target="_blank" href="https://flyingfishpress.com/"><em>Flying Fish Press</em></a>, where she has been publishing limited-edition artists’ books for over 36 years. Her books have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions at such places as the National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, DC) and the Jack Ginsberg Centre for Book Arts (Johannesburg, South Africa). Her books and projects have included a <a href="https://mnbookarts.org/shop/p/this-book-is-a-planetarium-by-kelli-anderson"><span>pop-up paper planetarium, a book that transforms into a pinhole camera</span></a>, and a working paper record. Intentionally lo-fi, she believes that humble materials can make the complexity and magic of our world accessible. She is currently finishing Alphabet in Motion, a book on the relationship between typography and technology with <a href="https://letterformarchive.org/"><span>Letterform Archive</span></a>. She holds a BA from Mount Holyoke College and an MFA from the University of Iowa Center for the Book. Capps’s practice draws from cultural and folkloric traditions. Her work explores memory, mythology, and transformation through the tactile language of paper, print, and book forms. She creates layered pieces that reflect themes of resilience, the macabre, and the reimagining of familiar myths. Lynne has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, and a Kresge Artist Fellowship. She has taught at the Center for Book Arts, New York, and Penland School of Crafts. Lynne was the Director of Signal-Return Detroit from 2013–2024. Her Fulbright research led to the first hanji studio in North America, an award-winning book, <em>Hanji Unfurled</em>, and a studio practice that includes jiseung, joomchi, paper textile, botanical paper, book art, and natural dyeing techniques. She travels the world to teach, exhibit, and serve as a resident artist while building capacity for East Asian papermaking. Her Fulbright Senior Scholar research focused on bamboo screens for hanji making and her second book, <em>As Good as Our Tools</em>, will be published in 2025.</p>

She lives and creates work in northwest Indiana at Hook Pottery Paper, a studio and gallery co-owned with her husband. Andrea combines paper arts, printmaking, and book arts to make works that address human relationship to the environment. She teaches and lectures internationally: Cooper Union (New York NY), School of the Art Institute (Chicago IL), Morgan Conservatory (Cleveland OH), Watermark Museum (Fabriano ITALY). He discovered the practice of letterpress printing while studying Graphic Design at the University of Minnesota (BFA), falling in love with the patience and collaboration it invites from its devotees. He interned at the Hamilton Wood Type &amp; Printing Museum (Two Rivers, WI) and was an artist-in-residence at Tipoteca in Cornuda, Italy. Her work spans several media including papermaking, natural dyes, and eco printing. Also a mathematician, Hellen strives to construct alternative languages to express sentiments. Originally from Montevideo, Uruguay, Hellen received her PhD from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. She holds a Certificate in Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she also received her printmaking and photography training.
